Earl Marriott Football Club

EMS @ Blaine

The Earl Marriott Mariners took their Junior Varsity, with a handful of Grade 8’s in the lineup, and Varsity teams to Blaine on Friday. The Borderites were great hosts and the atmosphere at the Varsity game, with a band in the stands and seemingly the entire community in attendance, was exactly what one would imagine of a small town USA Friday Night Football game.
Junior Varsity – Earl Marriott Mariners 9 at Blaine Borderites 6
The Juniors were up against a very athletic and well coached Borderites squad but the Mariners defense set the tone early with some intense play and a pair of sacks by Yousouf Berete on the Borderites first possession.

Second year pivot Jakob Davies opened the scoring on a nine yard touchdown run and Cole Parker added a 35 yard field goal to make the score 9-0 Mariners after one quarter of play. The score would stay 9-0 until midway through the fourth when a Borderites touchdown made the score 9-6, the Mariners defense came up with a big goal line stand late in the game and stopped the Borderites four times from the one yard, on fourth down Mariners Michael Ficken, who also had a strong game running the ball, forced a fumble, recovered it and then returned it 40 yards to seal victory for the Mariners. Other notables for the Mariners were Lachlan Scardina, Jefferson Bates, Jacob Knowles, Thomas Cizmok and an outstanding game from Grade 8 center Mitchell Hyde.
